A volunteer project in Costa Rica offers you a unique opportunity to live and work in a Spanish speaking environment while giving back to a community and immersing yourself in the local culture.
Community service and volunteering abroad is a life-changing experience where volunteers expand their horizons in a way that could never be achieved in a classroom.
Connect with like-minded, motivated, and compassionate people from around the world and walk away with a newfound outlook on how to create change everyday in your own life.
This is not Tourism
Tico Lingo is a locally-based and locally-run organization. The volunteer projects we offer are aimed at supporting Costa Rica’s local communities, biodiversity, and environment. This isn’t tourism – this is traveling with a purpose.
We Believe in Immersion
We encourage complete linguistic and cultural immersion and are dedicated to ensuring that our volunteer projects have long-term positive impacts within the community and give our volunteers an opportunity to speak Spanish.
Extensive Support Provided
The Tico Lingo volunteer team is multi-lingual, educated, and very well-traveled. We provide every volunteer 24/7 on-site support for all our projects and offer years of experience to help you select the project best for you.

Volunteering abroad is a mind-opening experience that exposes one to other cultures, languages, and new ways of life.
Each volunteer will have the unique opportunity to experience a side of Costa Rican culture that the average tourist never sees. You’ll be immersed in an environment where you’re learning new skills, interacting with new people, and making lifelong friends. You’ll walk away knowing you’ve made a positive impact on a community while improving your Spanish abilities at the same time.
Anyone who is enthusiastic and open-minded is welcome at our programs. Volunteers typically work alongside other volunteers who come from all over the world, so a culturally curious and outgoing attitude is a huge plus!

– Participants ages 13-17 are welcome when there is a faculty leader, parent, or guardian present

Duties range from working with children to teaching English, and protecting turtle nests and feeding toucans. Duties depend heavily on the type of volunteer project, but each will require volunteers to take directions from on-site local staff as well as work with different types of people in both English and Spanish.
