Language Exchange at Tico Lingo in Heredia, Costa Rica

Our Students

At Tico Lingo, we’ve had the privilege of teaching students ranging from the age of 5 to 81, hailing from every corner of the globe. For some, Spanish is their second language; for others, it’s their fourth or fifth. Costa Rica might be their first international adventure or just another stop on an epic journey around the world.

Despite their differences in age, nationality, language background, and travel experience, every student walks through our doors driven by a shared passion for the Spanish language and a deep curiosity about Costa Rican culture. Over the weeks they spend with us, they don’t just learn—they become part of our community. They leave not only as confident Spanish speakers but also as cultural ambassadors, carrying with them the flavors, traditions, and warmth of Costa Rica.

Jump-Start your Spanish Speaking! I am over 50 and have been taking Spanish for three years. Tico Lingo helped me put it all together and more. Excellent, effective and interesting Professors and curriculum, great home stay program and welcoming environment. My stay was for one week. There were five people in the class and four of us were over 50. (There were multiple classes going on with various ages and levels and lengths of stay) The afternoon individual tutoring option really reinforces the morning classes and Zulma is excellent. I learned a lot, had a great time and truly jump-started my Spanish speaking!

Amazing experience! I am 20 years old and spent 4 weeks at Tico Lingo. From day one everyone from my homestay family to my instructors to the support staff at the school were all very helpful and welcoming. I did 2 weeks with regular classes and 2 weeks with additional one on one classes. Some days it was a lot but my Spanish has improved greatly! Tico Lingo provides a great atmosphere to learn Spanish in a comfortable and understanding environment. I would recommend Tico Lingo to anyone who wants to improve their Spanish through immersion. Stay with a host family, participate in the extra activities offered, and be willing to be vulnerable and try new things and it will be an unforgettable and worthwhile experience!

¿Cómo empiezo? Tico Lingo is the best Spanish school I've been to. From day one, the program contact and staff are extremely responsive, helpful, and welcoming. They send a nice pdf bio of your homestay family so it's easy to know what to expect. They do an online (written) and WhatsApp call (oral) assessment to determine your level. Classes are small (no more than 6 students), so it's very interactive. All the instructors and staff are extremely qualified and professional. I definitely felt like my Spanish improved a lot during my short time here. The website and Instagram (shout-out Molly) are well-updated and all the high-quality videos and posts instill confidence for prospective/incoming students. The school itself is beautiful, there are tons of plants and communal spaces to study outside of class. Students have access to the space 8-5 Monday-Friday and it's a great place to spend time and meet other students and connect. There's also coffee and tea available all day. I want to especially shout out my profesora Karina for being absolutely amazing and Dani (Head of Student Services) for being supportive and ensuring I've had a great experience both inside and outside of the classroom. ¡Gracias a todos por una experiencia increíble!

Coming to Tico Lingo is an experience I’ll never forget . I thought that I was coming to exclusively learn Spanish but I’ve been endowed with so much more! Tico Lingo is not a school, it’s a community where EVERYONE feels welcomed and like they belong. One way they achieve this is by having a community lunch EVERY Wednesday . Additionally, the teachers are perceptive, patient and persist until you understand. Not only have I acquired a foundation in Spanish that I know will propel me into excellent speaking, understanding and writing but I have acquired what I believe will be lifelong connections and have become a better professional! Additionally my Salsa dancing has been upgraded and I was reintroduced to Yoga! It doesn’t get better that
