Our Students

At Tico Lingo, we’ve had the privilege of teaching students ranging from the age of 5 to 81, hailing from every corner of the globe. For some, Spanish is their second language; for others, it’s their fourth or fifth. Costa Rica might be their first international adventure or just another stop on an epic journey around the world.

Despite their differences in age, nationality, language background, and travel experience, every student walks through our doors driven by a shared passion for the Spanish language and a deep curiosity about Costa Rican culture. Over the weeks they spend with us, they don’t just learn—they become part of our community. They leave not only as confident Spanish speakers but also as cultural ambassadors, carrying with them the flavors, traditions, and warmth of Costa Rica.

I spent 3 weeks at Tico Lingo with a host family, who were absolutely great! I loved my time with them, from their home-cooked meals to World Cup parties, and my host mother, Gaby was always recommending activities and places for me to visit after classes or on the weekends. They made me feel welcome right away and helped me learn more about Costa Rican culture, including some Costa Rican slang! As for the actual classes, a very thank you much to my teacher, Freddy! I really appreciated his teaching style! He was able to give in-depth breakdowns of grammar in both English and Spanish, which was extremely helpful for me as a beginner. It helped me bridge the gap between the two languages and better understand what I was actually hearing from the Spanish speakers around me. Over the 3 weeks my understanding and confidence in speaking really improved! The classes and activities the school offered after the language lessons were another great way to practice Spanish. The teachers taught them in Spanish, so there was lots of new vocabulary to pick up through activities like yoga, dance, and cooking. I really enjoyed being able to learn Spanish in a variety of settings rather than only in the classroom. The weekend excursions were really fun way to practice as well. It was also nice to not to have to worry about planning the perfect day trip because the school had already organized everything. It also made it easy to meet other students and locals and experience more of Costa Rica. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Tico Lingo and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a Spanish immersion program. I think it is especially great for beginners because you get the structure and support you need while still having plenty of opportunities to practice Spanish in real-life situations. I left feeling much more confident in my Spanish and with a much better understanding of Costa Rican culture. ¡Muchas gracias, Tico Lingo, hasta la próxima!

My experience with Tico Lingo Spanish immersion school in Heredia was absolutely amazing. I was there for two weeks. If I could do it over again I would stay for three weeks. I went there by myself as a single female and felt extremely safe. I was able to walk everywhere, even in the dark without any issues. My home stay was wonderful. They made me delicious food twice a day. The teachers were great. I enjoyed walking everywhere. School was just a 15 minute walk away. Ubers are very inexpensive there so I was able to go and get groceries for my lunch. The price was very reasonable. I am so glad I went with Tico Lingo.

¡Totalmente recomendada!
