Language Exchange at Tico Lingo in Heredia, Costa Rica

Our Students

At Tico Lingo, we’ve had the privilege of teaching students ranging from the age of 5 to 81, hailing from every corner of the globe. For some, Spanish is their second language; for others, it’s their fourth or fifth. Costa Rica might be their first international adventure or just another stop on an epic journey around the world.

Despite their differences in age, nationality, language background, and travel experience, every student walks through our doors driven by a shared passion for the Spanish language and a deep curiosity about Costa Rican culture. Over the weeks they spend with us, they don’t just learn—they become part of our community. They leave not only as confident Spanish speakers but also as cultural ambassadors, carrying with them the flavors, traditions, and warmth of Costa Rica.

I recently finished two weeks at Tico Lingo. Before attending, I only used an app to try and learn Spanish but at Tico Lingo, I got WAY more help and a lot more understanding of the language. My proficiency went up quite a bit and felt comfortable talking with native speakers. Also, all the people at the school were super nice and very helpful. They were like one big family all trying to help us and improve our understanding. Additionally, Tico Lingo coordinates additional extra curricular activities like yoga, dance, weekend trips/excursions and intercultural exchanges where we get to practice with locals. I would HIGHLY recommend this school.

My wife and I just returned from our first Spanish immersion program and what an experience it was. We chose Tico Lingo in Heredia because we had been to Costa Rica before and felt comfortable with the country. However, an immersion program was definitely outside our comfort zone. Tico Lingo did a phenomenal job making us feel at home. Their friendly transportation staff met us at the airport and brought us to our host family. Our host family, José and Ariana, were so kind and patient with us. We probably learned as much living in their home as we did in school. The meals felt healthy, authentic, and representative of Costa Rican cuisine. The school itself is beautiful and peaceful (see pictures attached of my semi-outdoor classroom). The teachers were excellent and were able to accommodate our different levels of Spanish (A2 and B2). Afternoon tours of Heredia and downtown San Jose were fun and informative. Overall, I highly recommend the experience. Whether you are thinking about taking that first step into the exciting world that is immersion learning or you have done it several times and just want more, I think you’ll find Tico Lingo to be a special place that you’ll be glad you included on your Spanish learning journey.

Had an incredible experience at Tico Lingo in Heredia. My Host Family with Maria Isabel and her incredible family were so welcoming and I had a great time getting to know them and practice conversation with some very patient locals! My teachers Kevin and Yòbeth were very helpful, they were both very quick to provide exercises to help me practice new tenses and gramatical concepts, and corrected my mistakes with patience and helpful suggestions. Overall I learned so much, spoke so much Spanish and have a much better idea of what I can improve on moving forward. The tours organized through the school were great and very easy to participate in, and staff was helpful in helping me with ideas when I traveled on my own as well. Thank you Tico Lingo!

Tico Lingo is a special place, I had a wonderful time there. Both of my teachers were excellent, they have yoga and dance classes, weekend trips, staff and other teachers were super nice. And importantly I'm very happy with the amount of Spanish I was able to learn in two weeks. Definitely can recommend

I brought a group of High School students to Tico Lingo for a Spring Break 8-day Teen Camp that was custom designed for us, and I couldn't be happier with our experience. Chris and his talented teachers, staff, homestay families, drivers and guides went above and beyond to interact with our students and make sure they had the time of their lives. Chris was particularly good at connecting with the kids, taking great pictures, being flexible, and communicating with all of us, as well as our students' parents at home. He sent daily updates and pictures to the parents! As a chaperone/public school teacher, I greatly appreciate how much I got to rest and enjoy Costa Rica and my spring break. We will be back next year for sure, and I can't wait to stay with my host family again as they were truly special ❤️
